duoBOIL Hot Water Boiler
The duoBOIL is a hot water boiler manufactured in Western Europe to the highest standards of quality in both materials and production. It is designed for mobile applications in land and water travel vehicles or tiny houses.
The boiler can generate hot water in two different ways.
1. Using an Electric Heating Coil
The duoBOIL features an electric heating coil made of a corrosion-resistant special alloy. It can be powered from the onboard supply at 12/24V or by connecting to the 230/120V mains, or via a sufficiently dimensioned inverter.
The water temperature at which the heating coil automatically switches off is pre-adjustable.
2. Via Integration into the Vehicle’s Cooling System
The duoBOIL can be integrated into the engine's cooling system to heat the domestic water. This allows you to use the engine's waste heat without additional energy consumption, so you can enjoy a hot shower after your drive.
Conversely, the engine can be preheated, making starts gentler (not suitable for use in Arctic temperatures).
The options for integrating into the cooling system are as follows:
Cooling System Heats Domestic Water:
The cooling system is connected to the boiler and heats domestic water for showers, etc., while driving. Note that temperatures in the cooling system can exceed 100°C due to the pressure. Over time, this could cause the domestic water in the boiler to boil, resulting in dangerous steam and possible pressure release through the safety valve. This must be avoided at all costs. Use a valve in the cooling circuit or switch off the circulation pump to prevent the boiler from heating above 85°C.
Boiler Preheats the Cooling System (Engine):
This is the reverse of the above function. By connecting the boiler to a 230V/120V power source, the engine’s cooling system can be preheated. This can prevent the engine from freezing in extreme temperatures or allow for a gentler start in such conditions. The effectiveness of this method depends significantly on the ambient temperatures and the engine's size. Under Arctic conditions, the heat output needed to sufficiently raise the temperature of a large engine is much higher than what a hot water boiler can provide. In such cases, specific engine preheating measures (e.g., Autoterm Flow heating device) are necessary.
Flexible Mounting Options
The duoBOIL can be mounted on the floor, on the wall, or even on slanted surfaces. Two mounting clamps allow for flexible installation, as the boiler can rotate within the clamps due to its cylindrical shape. This makes it easy to find a suitable installation spot in any vehicle.
Built-in Safety Valve
If the system pressure becomes too high, a safety valve opens to prevent damage or leaks in the boiler and the vehicle's water system.
Winterizing
The safety valve features a lever that allows for the boiler to be drained through a drainage hose (not included). This makes winterizing your system quick and easy at this point.
Large Hot Water Capacity
The duoBOIL has a capacity of 9 liters. Since these 9 liters can be heated to 83°C, cold water must be mixed with the hot water for showering, significantly increasing the amount of comfortably warm shower water.
Note: You will need a scald protection device or thermostatic mixer (not included, see item number TEX1764). Alternatively, you can pre-set the boiler’s shut-off temperature to, for example, 40°C. However, we strongly recommend using the thermostatic mixer for the reasons mentioned and to ensure double protection against excessively hot water.
duoBOIL for DC and AC Applications
The duoBOIL water heater is available for use in 12 or 24-volt DC systems, as well as for operation with an inverter or mains power at 230 or 120 volts.
