Victron Energy Orion XS DC-DC Battery Charger: The Compact and Efficient DC-DC Converter for Lithium Batteries
Battery charger or power supply with a wide input and output voltage range - both are possible with the Victron Energy Orion XS DC-DC Battery Charger.
It offers several advantages for charging lithium batteries in vehicles with intelligent alternators, including:

The Orion XS can be fully programmed and monitored via the VictronConnect app. This includes remote access via VictronConnect-Remote (VC-R) when connected to a GX device (requires GX device connection to the VRM portal) through the integrated VE.Direct port.
Using Victron Orion XS as a Charger with Intelligent Alternators
Especially in Euro 5 or 6 vehicles with intelligent alternators, monitoring and controlling the charge are essential for the long life of the battery and alternator.
A four-stage charging algorithm adjusts the charging to the specific battery type. The charging algorithms with eight pre-programmed battery setups are fully adjustable via the VictronConnect app, ensuring optimal charging for any battery type.
Regulated charging via the Victron Orion XS Batteriy Charger also protects the alternator in lithium systems from overload, as the low resistance of lithium batteries can lead to a significant increase in generator current.
Victron Orion XS Battery Charger for Power Supply
The Orion XS Charger allows for a stable output voltage within the specified range, regardless of the applied load or fluctuating input voltage.
The output voltage is adjustable and ensures that the current never exceeds the set value, even if the input voltage is higher than the output voltage.
Features
Intelligent Motor Detection
So-called "intelligent alternators" are used to increase fuel efficiency and reduce emissions. They have a variable output voltage and shut off when not needed. The Orion XS has a mechanism that detects whether the engine is running, activating the charger only when the alternator is actually providing power. This prevents the voltage on the vehicle from becoming too low.
A separate motor detection sensor is therefore unnecessary.
The Victron Orion XS can also be manually turned on and off via the Remote On/Off connection.
Adaptive Absorption Time Mode
In adaptive absorption time mode, the correct absorption time is automatically calculated. Configurable with VictronConnect.
Repeated Absorption
To refresh the battery and prevent slow self-discharge in storage mode over an extended period, a one-hour absorption charge occurs automatically every 7 days (or as configured).
Temperature-Compensated Charging
The optimal charging voltage of a lead-acid battery is inversely proportional to the temperature. The Victron Orion XS DC-DC Charger measures the ambient temperature at the beginning of the charging phase and compensates for the temperature during the charging process. The temperature is measured again when the battery charger is in low-current mode during absorption or storage. Special settings for a cold or warm environment are therefore not required.
Adjustable Charging Current
The charging current is adjustable with a minimum step size of 0.1A. Configurable with VictronConnect.
Low-Temperature Shutdown
Prevents damage to lithium batteries by turning off the charger at low temperatures. Configurable with VictronConnect.
Input Voltage Lockout
Turns off the charger if the input voltage falls below the lockout value and restarts when the input voltage rises above the restart value. Configurable with VictronConnect.
Remote On/Off
The inverter can be remotely turned on and off via the Remote On/Off connection or the VictronConnect app, for example, with wired switches or a lithium battery with a Battery Management System (BMS) that has an Allowed To Charge (ATC) output.
VE.Direct
Monitor and control (On/Off) the Orion XS DC-DC Charger via a wired connection from a GX device such as the Cerbo GX, Ekrano GX. It can also be used with a PC, Apple computer (requires macOS), or an Android device in conjunction with VictronConnect via a wired VE.Direct connection.
Configuration and Monitoring via the VictronConnect App and Bluetooth
The Victron Buck-Boost charger has Bluetooth Smart. Various parameters can be adjusted and monitored with the VictronConnect app.
This includes the Instant Overview, which Displays the key data of the Orion XS 12/12–50 A DC-DC Charger (and other intelligent Victron products) on the device list without connecting to the device. This includes warnings, alarms, and error messages for quick diagnosis.
VictronConnect is available for Android, iOS, Windows, and macOS. Refer to the VictronConnect manual for more information.
Waterproof
Orion XS complies with IP65 protection rating; this means it is dustproof and protected against strong splashing water.
Operates Silently
Heat is dissipated by natural convection in the Victron Orion XS Buck-Boost Battery Charger, eliminating the need for a noisy cooling fan.
