Installation Kit with Autoterm Air 2D Heater – Fits 99% of Camper Setups
This kit is named so because it meets the needs of 99% of all "standard" campers. It includes everything you need to complete the heater installation, including furniture air outlets, control panel, warm air duct, and more.
The kit with the 2kW heater also works for larger travel vehicles with up to approx. 16 cubic meters of heatable space (volume without furniture!). The heater is best used in continuous operation. That means it stays on at a low power level instead of switching off and on again. The idea is simple: it uses significantly less energy to maintain a comfortable temperature than to try to heat up a freezing cold interior in 30 minutes.
We assume, of course, that the vehicle is properly insulated and that – due to the large, uninsulated windows – the cold driver's cabin is at least separated by a blanket in winter.
Don’t worry: the heater is designed for continuous operation and handles it just fine. In theory, you could turn it on when you leave and switch it off again when you return four weeks later. Power consumption at the lowest setting is 10 watts – less than your van’s parking light.
The heating performance of the 99% kit might not be sufficient,
- if you're a winter enthusiast and regularly travel to extreme cold regions with a large vehicle.
- if your vehicle is poorly insulated but you still want to travel outside the summer season.
- if you need to heat more than 16 cubic meters of space.
In that case, check out the 1% Camper Kit with 4kW heating power – or even better: the TWIN Kit.
If you’re unsure about the heating power you need, read our online magazine article TWIN Kit – All-in-One Solution for Heater Sizing, where we go into more detail on this topic.
For the VW T5 / T6, a designated underfloor mounting position for a heater is provided from the factory. We also offer a matching installation kit for this: T5/T6 Kit.
The included heater:
Diesel air heater: Autoterm Air 2D with 2 kW heating power and high-altitude kit. Suitable for vehicles with either 12V or 24V electrical systems (please select according to your vehicle’s system).
This heater has proven itself for many years even under the toughest conditions and stands out for its:
- durability,
- easy repairability,
- E-mark approval (no TÜV inspection or certified workshop required!),
- warranty coverage even when self-installed,
- altitude kit, and more.

Choose the shape of the air outlet
The heater is available with two different warm air outlets for different space and installation situations:
1. With a straight outlet (standard). Please note: the warm air must be routed in as straight a line as possible away from the heater. The duct should only have slight bends and must not make a 90° turn or similar right behind the heater. This would cause a heat buildup in the heater, which leads to an automatic safety shutdown.
2. With TIGHT SPACE casing. Here, the warm air is guided through a specially flow-optimized 90° angle out of the heater. The outlet can be installed facing upwards or sideways.
Important: Even though the heater units are identical: if you use a warm air duct to create a bend like with the TIGHT SPACE housing, your heater will overheat. So plan your installation and duct routing before ordering so you’ll know whether a straight or angled outlet is better suited for your setup!

Altitude Kit / Heater Maintenance
The heater comes with a built-in altitude kit, meaning it automatically adjusts to changing air pressure at high elevations and continues to function. But that doesn’t mean it won’t get sooty! When returning from high altitudes, run your heater on full power for an hour to burn off any deposits.
You should also do this if you’ve been running the heater only on low power for an extended time. At least every 1–2 weeks, turn it up to full power to get the combustion chamber properly hot. This is the most important – and only – maintenance task for this heater.
Also included in the kit:
Choose your Control Panel
Autoterm heaters can be operated with different control panels. You can choose between:
Simple Control Panel (formerly PU-5): A basic control panel with a rotary dial. It regulates the heater based on fixed power levels. An optional temperature sensor can be connected to enable room temperature control using this simple panel.
OLED Control Panel (formerly PU-27): The digital control panel with OLED display has an integrated temperature sensor (1.8 m cable), but an external sensor can also be connected if the panel is installed in an unsuitable location (e.g. inside a cabinet). You can also control the heater via fixed power levels. Includes a timer function. Menu languages: English and Russian.
Comfort Control: The new and improved control panel for Autoterm / Planar heaters. Features three freely programmable timers for any weekday, advanced heating modes (incl. thermostat mode), voltage monitoring, and more. Multifunctional rotary knob with grippy rubber surface and OLED display. Smaller installation dimensions, better usability, sleeker design.
You can also find a direct comparison of the control panels in our online magazine: Autoterm Control Panels Compared – Heating Modes, Features, Handling
Please simply choose your preferred control panel when placing your order.
The cable length to the control panel included by the manufacturer is 1.80 m. Various longer replacement or extension cables are available as optional accessories in our shop.
New: Since 2025, it's also possible to connect two control panels to manage a single heater – for example, one near the bed or seating area and another in the driver’s cab. For this purpose, you can optionally add the Push Control, a compact and easy-to-use switch that is fully compatible with the Comfort Control.
Mounting Flange
Stainless steel mounting flange that makes installation easy and thermally decouples the heater from the vehicle floor.
You only need to cut a rectangular opening (9 cm x 13 cm) in the vehicle floor to install the heater level and thermally isolated. The tigerexped mounting flange can then be glued or screwed into place (please do not use silicone – use a PUR sealing compound instead).
You can choose the flange size: either for floor thicknesses up to 48 mm (suitable for most vans), or for 83 mm floors (typically used in cabins or with thick insulation and subfloors). The flange should be at least 5 mm longer than the actual floor thickness to allow space for a sealing bead.
For the fuel supply
Two different T-pieces (8 x 8 x 5.3 mm and 5.3 x 5.3 x 5.3 mm) are included in the set – for example, if your vehicle already has a fuel-powered auxiliary heater and the fuel line can be easily tapped with a T-connector. We strongly recommend tapping into the fuel system only if you fully understand how it works and can be sure that both the vehicle and the heater will function properly.
Otherwise, the kit also includes a diesel pickup pipe for installation directly in the vehicle’s fuel tank, allowing you to draw fuel independently.
Fuel hose notice:
The set includes fuel hose for connecting all components. The included length is generally sufficient (some segments may need to be shortened or split). If you find you need more, you can reorder it by the meter under item number 35612.
Warm air ducting
The set also includes 3 meters of 60 mm warm air duct – which covers the needs of 99% of installs.
Warm air outlets / distribution
A suitable Y-piece and two rotating 60 mm outlets are also part of the kit. You can install them into furniture or walls as needed to direct the airflow where you want it.
