TWIN Kit – Perfectly adjustable, redundant heating for large expedition vehicles
The TWIN Kit is primarily designed for vehicles with an interior space of 16 cubic meters or more. It allows you to control the interior temperature precisely – whether it’s a mild +10 °C outside or a freezing -35 °C. So, if you're planning to venture into colder regions from time to time, this is the ideal solution.
It also offers a huge bonus: redundancy.
Better temperature control with the TWIN Kit
Why should you go for two smaller heaters when one larger model with double the heating output costs only slightly more?
It’s the classic dilemma: which heater is right for my vehicle? Online forums and self-build groups on social media are constantly debating whether a 2 kW or 4 kW heater is the better choice for a specific build.
One of the most common replies: “Get the big one, it’s only 20 bucks more and gives you double the power.”
But here’s the truth: That’s completely the wrong mindset.
4 kW of heat – often simply too much
In smaller or well-insulated vehicles, or when traveling to regions with pleasantly mild weather, 4 kW of heating output is just overkill. Even at the lowest setting, your camper can turn into a sauna, forcing you to open a window just to cool down again. That’s not only a massive waste of energy, but also pretty uncomfortable. You’re constantly switching between too cold (heater off) and too hot (heater on).
Sure, if you’re thinking about taking a true winter trip now and then, having the power of a 4 kW heater can be appealing. But if you’re only chasing snow once every five years, it’s really oversized for the rest of the time.
Another issue: soot buildup
Oversizing also means your heater is more likely to clog up and fail. Constantly running it on the lowest setting causes soot to build up inside the combustion chamber. To prevent performance loss, it has to be run on full power for at least 30 minutes every week or two. So in the end, you’re not really saving anything at all.
The TWIN Kit – the perfect solution
The TWIN Kit strikes the perfect balance between too much and too little heating power. In milder conditions, only one of the two heaters runs. When it gets really cold, both units can kick in and deliver the full 4 kW output.
This means the two 2 kW heaters are operating in their optimal range 99% of the time – ideal for efficient heating and long service life. You can fine-tune the temperature better than with a single 4 kW heater, making it easy to keep things cozy even when it’s not freezing outside. And thanks to regular mid- or high-level operation in cooler weather, soot buildup is far less likely.
So even if it drops to -30 °C, there’s no reason to freeze – just activate the second heater.
Bonus feature: Redundancy
Even though Autoterm heaters can often be repaired on the road, that still takes time – and in the meantime, it can get uncomfortably cold. Depending on where you are, that can be annoying at best, or a serious problem at worst.
Not so if you’ve got a second heater! Knowing you won’t be left in the cold gives you way more peace of mind when heading into colder climates.
Control panel
Autoterm heaters can be controlled via different panels. With the TWIN Kit, you can choose between:
OLED Control Panel (formerly PU-27): This digital panel with OLED display features a built-in temperature sensor (cable length 1.8 m). You can also connect an external sensor if the panel is installed in an unsuitable location (e.g., inside a cupboard). It also allows for manual power level control and comes with a timer function. Menus are available in English and Russian.
Comfort Control: The latest, improved control panel for Autoterm/Planar heaters. Offers three freely programmable timers for any day of the week, extended heating modes (including thermostat mode), voltage monitoring, and more. The multifunction dial features a grippy rubber finish and OLED display. It’s more compact, easier to use, and looks sleek.

The included cable length is 1.80 m. We also offer longer replacement or extension cables in our Heater Accessories section.
New: As of 2025, you can connect two control panels to control one heater – for example, one by the bed or seating area and one in the driver’s cab. For even more flexibility, there’s also the optional Push Control – a compact, easy-to-use switch compatible with Comfort Control.
TWIN mounting flange
We’ve developed a custom mounting flange specifically for the TWIN Kit. It accommodates both heaters at once, thermally isolates them from the vehicle floor, and seals the required cutout against the outside.
No need to drill a bunch of separate holes for every inlet and outlet of both heaters.
Now even more flexible – choose your warm air outlet style (WIHT 2kW HEATERS ONLY!)
The heaters are available with two different warm air outlet options, depending on your installation space. Choose your preferred version above.
1. Straight outlet (standard). Please note: warm air must flow in as straight a line as possible from the heater. Keep hose bends gentle – a sharp 90° turn right after the heater can cause a heat buildup that triggers a safety shutdown.
2. TIGHT SPACE casing: This version uses a flow-optimized 90° outlet that directs warm air upward or sideways. Ideal for tight installation spaces.
Important: Even though the heaters themselves are identical, if you try to replicate the angled outlet of the TIGHT SPACE version using flexible warm air ducting, your heater will overheat. So plan your ducting layout before ordering, to decide whether the straight or angled outlet works best for your setup.
What else you’ll need for installation
The warm air ducting system is not included, since every vehicle layout is different. You can plan the system just like a regular 90 mm setup. All compatible parts are available in our 90 mm system category.
Optional: Sound dampers
Autoterm heaters are already quiet, but you can reduce noise even further with our special “Schlafgut” sound dampers. See product number 17895.
Just make sure to leave enough space in your layout if you want to use them.
Warm air distribution tip
When planning your warm air layout, don’t just focus on the outlet – think about the air intake side too.
If you’re still planning your build, design your furniture so that intake air flows behind the cabinets. This can prevent condensation and mold from forming in these sensitive areas.
